Our mission is to create vibrant new networks between Northern European, African and American cultures through juxtaposition of traditional and contemporary art in a novel institution, the TUKKU MAGI  Museum and Cultural Center in Tukums, Latvia

TUKKU MAGI is comprised of the Tukku Magi Kolekcija (Latvia),
Tukku Magi Dialogue (USA)
and Pasaules Kultūru Telpa Tukumā (Latvia).

“Tukku Magi” means  “line of hills” in the nearly vanished Liv (Finno-Ugric) language. Possibly, this was the origin of the current name of the town of Tukums.

Latvia is a space historically destined to bridge between East and West. In our project, we are boldly shifting this vector to support creative integration between North and South.

At TUKKU MAGI we believe that cultural understanding and global connection through art and culture are essential to the human experience.

We strive to provide a platform for artists and communities to establish connections and exchange cultural traditions and ideas through a deepening understanding and knowledge of art.

At TUKKU MAGI,

we believe that a village

is not a thing of the past,

but rather a space of

experimentation for

alternative life models and

possibilities for the future.

The Tukku Magi project started in a spontaneous conversation with American philanthropists and collectors Bobbi and Tim Hamill, of Boston, Massachusetts and the idea to build a unique multi-cultural platform in Northern Europe to foster aesthetic dialogue between the North and South.
The donation of over 500 objects of African traditional art as well as the historic Zebergs Malt Factory building has allowed us to achieve very important milestones towards our goal of building a unique museum and cultural center in Tukums, Latvia.

Special thanks are due to Justs Karlsons for donation of the building.

We would like to express gratitude to many people for their generous support. We simply would not be able to fulfill our mission without your help:
